What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is an enhanced state of relaxation that allows complete focus of the mind onto specific thoughts or issues, Hypnosis is induced by the therapist’s voice although other techniques can be used such as pendulums and eye fixation. There is no such thing as a hypnotised ‘feeling’ as the experience will be unique for you although you will probably feel more alert and focused than usual. Hypnosis is a totally natural state and with help you can easily achieve the state by yourself. The therapist can however help you focus your attention and be able to deliver therapy so you can resolve the worries or issues you may have. Almost anyone can enter hypnosis easily and no harm will come to you whilst in this voluntary state. You are not asleep or unconscious and you cannot get ‘stuck’ in hypnosis. You cannot be made to do or reveal anything you do not wish to. You will probably feel very comfortable and relaxed and will be able to converse with the therapist if this is needed in the session.

About Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis by itself will do little more than completely relax you. Hypnosis coupled with therapeutic techniques will provide relief from symptoms or effect beneficial change or improvement in your life. Hypnotherapists use hypnosis to ensure people are more relaxed but still able to fully communicate with their therapist. It is likely that you will feel more comfortable to chat about your problems or issues if you are wonderfully relaxed.

Hypnotherapy takes two main forms – Suggestion therapy and Hypnoanalysis
Suggestion therapy

This is ideal for helping people cope with such problems and situations as Driving Test Nerves, Exam Nerves, Stop Smoking, Stress, Confidence issues, Money Worries, IBS, Weight Control and many others.
It employs the use of positively worded suggestions that take root in the subconscious and which you then act on instinctively.
Usually between 2 to 5 sessions are required depending on the nature of the presenting issue.

Analytical therapy – Known as Hypnoanalysis

This is used when there are more deep rooted problems and where the cause is sometimes not known. It can generally help most problems where there is a psychological factor at work. Using Hypnoanalysis, you and your therapist can really explore the presenting problem, so after therapy you can get on with enjoying your life.

Often the root cause of the problem is buried deep in the subconscious, you may not even recall it because it occurred when you were very young or because your mind has deliberately buried it deep to protect you.

Hypnoanalysis cannot remove this memory but by exploring it during hypnosis its impact can be alleviated, allowing the memory to fade into the background. This will effect change and improvement allowing you to get on with the business of enjoying life. As a rough guide the therapy period will normally be between 6 to 12 weekly sessions and will usually provide a complete and lasting release from the symptons.

Areas of Specialisation
I have two main areas of Specialisation; these are Psychosexual Disorders and Eating Disorders.

Psychosexual Disorders
I am a highly qualified specialist in Psychosexual Disorders which means I could help you with making your sex life the best it can be! Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapeutic techniques could help with many sexual and confidence issues, these include:-

General Sexual Difficulties
  • Exhibitionism:Sometimes this is a need to shock; at other times it can be based on a dislike of self – it’s often all about  seeking validation.
  • Masturbation complex:Probably the commonest form of guilt complex, the masturbation complex can affect both males  and females and can cause many problems.
  • Jealousy:So common it can almost be considered a normal part of sexual life, it can sometimes get out of hand and  become completely irrational.
  • Lack of sexual confidence:Do you hold yourself back or convince yourself that your partner is better than you?
  • Relationship issues:Is your sex life suffering due to relationship issues?
  • Menopausal problems:The menopause can lower the drive and make sexual intercourse difficult due to vaginal  dryness
Sexual Difficulties for the Male
  • Erectile Dysfunction:Often a physical problem, it is important you see your doctor or GP before seeking therapy.
  • Premature Ejaculation:Ejaculation occurs too quickly after penetration, sometimes with greatly diminished physical  sensation.
  • Lack of drive:A complete absence or partial lack of drive or wish for sexual activity.
  • Fetish:A sexual fascination with an object or concept not directly associated with sexual intercourse.
Sexual Difficulties for the Female
  • Lack of sexual desire:This is the most common difficulty for females, in which there is no great interest in sexual activity.
  • Anorgasmia:The inability to achieve orgasm either during intercourse or masturbation
  • Intercourse Anorgasmia:Orgasm can be achieved by masturbation but not through sexual intercourse
  • Vaginismus:An involuntary spasm of the vaginal muscles, making penetration either impossible or extremely painful
  • Vaginal Dryness:In women over 35 this is often due to a physical condition: in younger women, though, it is possible that   it is purely a psychological problem

Eating Disorders
I am also fully qualified in Eating Disorders which mean I could help you come to terms with your relationships with food and effect solutions that work for you!
Therapy could help you with: -
  • Anorexia Nervosa
  • Bulimia (both Simple and Complex)
  • Compulsive Over Eating
  • Binge Eating

Hypnotherapy Session Length
Most sessions are approximately 50 minutes but sometimes more time will be needed if a particular issue needs more extra time. This means that sessions can sometimes overrun so although I endeavour to keep to appointment times please be patient if you have to wait a few extra minutes for your slot.

The three most commonly asked about issues
Quit Smoking Therapy

This therapy is, quite simply, the best available. The success rate is higher than you might imagine – in fact, some surveys have shown it to be definitely one of the most effective methods of quitting.
No drugs are used and there are no unpleasant side effects; many people experience no withdrawal symptoms and little or no craving, so if you’re determined to kick the habit, it REALLY CAN HELP.

A single 90 minute session is all you will need. Go now to my Stop Smoking page for extra information

Hypnotherapy for Anxiety and Stress
Hypnosis is of enormous help in reducing stress and /or anxiety levels. Whether you need help for a ‘one-off’ situation like a Driving Test, for example, or a more persistent and possibly deeper-rooted problem, hypnosis could help you.

Hypnotherapy for Fears and Phobias
When you have a fear or phobia that you really cannot get to grips with however hard you try, no amount of well-intentioned ‘help’ from family and friends is likely to solve the problem. It can even make things worse! Although it may seem impossible to you now, hypnotherapy can help to remove the problem so that you can simply forget it ever existed in the first place. Using only the right sort of therapy for you means that you will not replace one fear with another, either.
